How the taster days work
The taster days at PrimeSoft took place over two days. In a small group the participants received a structured yet practical introduction to the world of software development.
They were accompanied by apprentices and specialists from the company. A comprehensive script served as a guide allowing all tasks to be reviewed independently and completed at an individual pace. Shared lunches were also part of the programme and contributed to a pleasant atmosphere.
Day 1: Fundamentals and insight into the IT apprenticeship
The first day focused entirely on the basics. The aim was to develop an understanding of key programming concepts and apply them directly in practice.
Participants learned among other things what:
-
Data types and variables are
-
If/else conditions and logical operators are
-
Loops and simple arrays are
Short theoretical inputs alternated with practical exercises which were discussed together. The day was complemented by insights into the IT apprenticeship at PrimeSoft ranging from training structure to long‑term development opportunities.
Possible career paths after completing the apprenticeship were also presented to provide a realistic picture of development opportunities for example through the career path of David Flury who is now Head of Products at PrimeSoft.
Tag 2: Practical project «calculator»
On the second day the acquired knowledge was applied in a concrete project. The goal was to develop a simple Windows application a calculator with basic functions such as addition subtraction multiplication and division.
After an introduction to the structure of a WPF application using XAML for the user interface and C# for the logic the participants worked step by step on their own program. A flow diagram helped to understand and implement the logic in a structured way.
By the end of the day all participants had a fully functional application. Some even went a step further by adding additional features or initial ideas of their own. The projects could be taken home on a USB stick.
„At PrimeSoft you are not just an apprentice but an active part of the team. What I really like is being able to take responsibility and grow through real projects.“

From apprenticeship to leadership role: David’s journey at PrimeSoft
The opportunities for growth at PrimeSoft are illustrated by the career path of David Flury who is now Head of Products.
He entered the IT field through vocational education and early practical experience in application development at PrimeSoft. He then deepened his expertise with a degree in Computer Science and took on responsibility in software engineering at an early stage.
Over the course of his career he continued to develop from technical roles to leadership responsibilities in engineering and ultimately to his current role as Head of Products. Alongside this he pursued further education in IT leadership and technology management.
David’s journey shows that PrimeSoft offers room for development. An apprenticeship or entry into the company can be the start of a long‑term career.
„I started developing at PrimeSoft. At some point it was no longer just about features.“
